Hampton Roads Gulls Statistics and History

The Hampton Roads Gulls were a professional hockey team that played in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League during the 1982-83 season. The team played at the Hampton Coliseum.

The Gulls were officially incorporated on August 2, 1982, however the idea of a team had been discussed as early as May 1982. The ownership group started out with five investors, but by the time the season started, the group included twenty-one members, all local residents of the Hampton area. The president of the ownership group was Sandra L. Combs.

The team's original General Manager was Dave Emerson, however he was fired early on in the season. Their original coach was ex-Hampton Aces player Paul O'Neil, but he too was dismissed early in the season. The Gulls had three total coaches: O'Neil, Pat Donnelly, and a third coach whose name has escaped from the history books.

The Gulls ceased operations on February 2, 1983 due to financial problems. A team known as the Hampton Jets was proposed by ex-GM Dave Emerson to replace the Gulls on the schedule, but that team folded within 24 hours of its inception, without playing a single game, due to a lack of players who would continue playing.
